General question; app related ; wtf do I do?

I receive application suggestions periodically, from some friends. I'm not at all aware of what should be done on them let alone what forums I have access to. My reason for pursuing my endeavors is purely academic. My curiosity is killing me and my lack of skills has me about to commit suicide. It's not for lack of trying that I'm in this position.
