Verizon iPhone 5 factory unlocked?

I've heard rumors and read many articles stating that the Verizon iphone5 is unlocked, i.e. can be used with any GSM in the world. Is it true? Has anyone tested it? If so, do we need to activate it with Verizon before using an internation carrier? I don't live in the US, but I have a friend there now, so if he gets me the verizon-iphone5 (at full retail price), would i be able to use it in my home country?? Thanks in advance for the replies!
