How to upgrade iPhone from 4.3.1 to 6.1

Hi guys, I currently have an iPhone 3GS running 4.3.1. I want to upgrade it to the latest version. When I go through the wizard, it tells me I need to make sure I have 6.0 installed, which I don't have. Any feedback welcomed!
