The HomePod was a great idea, but incessant delays and a lack of enthusiasm by Apple (who wouldn’t allocate the resources needed to release it on time), meant that when it WAS released, it was already old news, behind the times and faced serious, well-established competition. Adding the usual Apple ‘Premiere’ pricing only further dammed it. Even worse, it’s poor sales granted it would NEVER be updated or upgraded, depressing the already tepid sales. It is, by all accounts, still a tremendous speaker for the size, but it’ll never be a competitive product. By the way, for me, I see it’s lack of ‘always listening’ (for sales leads) intelligence, like Alexa or Google, to be a Significant advantage! In the end, when Apple first fired Steve Jobs because he WASN’T a marketing ‘genius’, the company was unable to sell much of anything until he returned. Now, after his death, the same thing is happening, but Apple can’t rehire him, no matter how badly their revenue declines.
