iPhone Home Screen Redesign [Concept]

iPhone Home Screen Redesign [Concept]

Posted September 23, 2009 at 3:08pm by iClarified
Geoff Teehan from Teehan+Lax has posted his vision for the iPhone Home Screen. Unfortunately, Apple has prevented any changes to the home screen via the SDK; however, its possible that someone could create an implementation of this for users with jailbroken devices.

You can see from the screens it's essentially just a scrollable list of applications and notifications. We envision it behaving in much the same way that the list view does in the Calendar application. By default it may track things like missed calls, unread emails and calendar events. But what if users could allow other apps to feed into this screen as well? If I'm a Facebook junkie I'd be able to tell the Facebook app to include certain feeds on my home screen. If I was a frequent traveler I may include the Tripit app to show me my upcoming trips. The options would only be limited by what apps you have installed.

Basically the design allows you to create a scrollable home screen of the stuff that matters to you.

Either this or, even better: Intelliscreen. Well, I stopped jailbreaking because of the time wasted. I do miss INTELLISCREEN though... A better way would be for Apple to approve of Intelliscreen. Why not start a "referendum"? Who would like to see Intelliscreen (or similar) in the APP Store?????

looks TOO much like Windows Mobile. Apple should just make the Homescreen rotate.

Apple should have about 4-5 diff default screens on the phone automaticly and they should have where you can download or make youre own home screen. There's no way people should be getting bored with their iPhones.

Or instead of intelliscreen you can use gruppled lock info and status notifier. It'll give you the same effect of missed calls, txts, emails, calander events, 5 day forcast etc. on the lock screen. and just add a weather widget. Very simple. but as always if Apple had it native in the firmware it would run smooth and be that much less to add via jailbreaking.

Intelliscreen is the only reason I jailbreak my iPhone these days. If Apple provided lock-screen functionality like this, I would gladly do without jailbreaking.

I hope nothing like this comes out. This is exactly how other smartphones looks like, especially windows mobile smartphones... The 16 icons in a page looks fine to me.

you can have this functionality (you have to jailbreak) with Intelliscreen, works quite well (they ironed most of the bugs). It's time apple does something in this direction and actually with the whole flat menu idea, it was OK for a few apps, not so for dozens.

There already is an app like that called intelliscreen...I believe it cost like 10 bucks with other features...you get it from cydia and yes your iPhone needs to be jailbroken...Cmon!!!

So basically make it look like the Windows Mobile home screen. Gee, no thanks! I expect Apple to think out of the box not just recycle old ideas.

So what you are saying is that you prefer looks over functionality... Each to their own
