Black-Colored Aluminum Chassis for iPad Mini Sees Low Yield Rates?

Shipments of the much rumored iPad mini may be facing a problem with low yield rates at chassis makers, according to a DigiTimes report.

Foxconn, Catcher, and Ri-Teng have been identified as suppliers of the iPad mini; however, Catcher says its utilization rates and yield rates for various products meet their product roadmap.

The iPad mini reportedly will come in native- and black-colored aluminum chassis, which are more vulnerable to scratching, said the sources, adding that the anodized finish process on the black cases is more critical, which often results in lower yield rates.

Foxconn is said to have landed over half the orders for the first batch of iPad minis and Pegatron (Ri-Teng) received the rest.
