iPhone 5 Launched to Long Lines in India [Video]

Apple has shifted its strategy to launch the iPhone 5 in India and started to utilize distributors to promote its device, reports The WSJ.

Due to strict regulations, Apple is unable to sell its iPhone via branded stored and so it has been using Indian telecom providers to reach customers. For the iPhone 5, the company decided to use the local operations of larger distributors.

The Cupertino, Calif. company has recently tied up the local operations of Ingram Micro Inc., a large U.S.-based distributor of technology, and Redington (India) Ltd., a local distributor with 12,000 smaller partners across the country, the person said. Redington confirmed that it has added iPhones to the list of Apple products it is selling in India. A spokeswoman for Ingram Micro wasn’t immediately available for a comment. Apple declined to comment.

The move may not increase profits; however, it should increase market share. Notably, the iPhone 5 did launch to long lines and much ado as can be seen in the videos below.

And we know why they make so few on the first run as they don't spend enough time testing make it get it out make as much money as they can and hope it works. If it dont then dont have to replace to many. if they sent more time testing geting every thing right they could ship more to start with. Then make and ship more as needed. They don't care if you have to wait weeks to get your hands on one. Report after report we sold so many in three days right great then run out. If you believed in what you make and it works ship more so your customers don't have to wait.

Because u don't no were to go to eat good food? Lets face it population is like 1/2 of world there packed in little bigger then size of TX. Plus poor country = needs to have good immune system and watch what u drink and eat.

More to the point why sell to India when every place you try to get iPhone 5 is three weeks wait. Apple needs to ship more phone to cover this waiting time before starting to open other sails outlets. Should of had more ready to ship to cover demand,
