These are instructions on how to perform an untethered jailbreak of your Apple TV 2 on iOS 5.2 using Sn0wBreeze for Windows.

Step One
Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage.

Download the Apple TV 2 iOS 5.2 firmware from here and Sn0wBreeze from here and place them into the Pwnage folder.

Step Two
Extract the Sn0wBreeze archive to the same Pwnage folder.

Step Three
Launch the Sn0wBreeze application from the folder we just extracted.

Step Four
Click the arrow at the bottom right to begin.

Step Five
Click the Browse for an IPSW button.

Step Six
Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop, select the ipsw we just downloaded, and click Open.

Step Seven
Once your device is determined, click the arrow at the bottom right to continue.

Step Eight
Click to select Simple Mode.

Step Nine
You will be asked to set the root partition size. You can leave the default and click the arrow at the bottom right to continue.

Step Ten
Your custom IPSW will now be generated.

Step Eleven
Once the custom IPSW creation is complete you will be warned that after setting up your Apple TV the screen may be blank for 60 seconds. Click the OK button.

Step Twelve
You will then be asked if you want to donate to the evad3rs for the untether. Click Yes if you wish to donate immediately or No if you do not want to donate at this time.

Step Thirteen
You'll then be informed that custom IPSW has been placed on your desktop. Click the large OK button to begin instructions on how to put your device into a restorable state.

Step Fourteen
Plug your Apple TV 2 into the computer using a micro-USB cable and click Start

Step Fifteen
In five seconds you will need to press and hold both the Menu and Play/Pause buttons on your Apple TV's remote for 7 seconds then release.

Step Sixteen
Once you've done this, iREB will run placing your device into a Pwned DFU state and iTunes will be ready for your to restore to your custom IPSW.

Step Seventeen:
Hold down the Shift key and click the Restore Apple TV... button.

Step Eighteen:
Navigate to the desktop, select the custom IPSW that Sn0wBreeze placed there, and click the Open button.

Step Nineteen:
iTunes will prompt you to confirm the restore. Click the Restore button.

Step Twenty:
Once your Apple TV has restored successfully you will be ready to use your newly jailbroken device.

NOTES:
The first time we booted up the Apple TV 2 after this procedure the UI was a bit scrambled. A reboot fixed this. Also, some of your Apple TV tweaks may not be ready for iOS 5.2 yet so double check before updating.

I followed these steps. It works except for the fact that it is not jailbroken! Please help. The ATV 2 has 5.2 on it. NITO inataller and XBMC Wizard both confirm not jailbroken?
Ancoavi - April 17, 2013 at 3:16pm
If at the end of the process iTunes confirm the installation you should get after you start you device nito app If you don't have nito on startup try to run the full process again I had the same issue and it was solved on the second installation Let me know how it worked
Vastrella - April 17, 2013 at 4:04pm
I tried again, first I got a 3194 error, would not let me proceed! I tried again, this time it finished but gave me a 1604 error? I plugged it in and saw the itunes symbol on the TV screen.

Just to add, the ATV now shows up on my TV, but still not jailbroken?

Try another thing Save your shsh with ifaith, this is very simple just google it After that make a custom ipsw with snowbreez ( use the ifaith mode and your shsh file you got from ifaith) Than follow snowbreez instructions after making the custom ipsw and put the dive on ireb mode. Use iTunes to install the custom ipsw You should get the nito icon If you have shsh signature saved with tinyumbella or Cydia you can use the seasonpass too It is very strange you success with the installation but don't have the nito app Try pressing the Manu down button together for 7 seconds until the light flash fast and release them see if you have nito now

you cant jailbreak os 5.2.1 you'll have to wait for new jailbreak and i think it will take a few months untill it arrives. if you have SHSH blob for privios os you can try snowbreeze or seasonpass if not you'll have to wait sorry for the bad news you can check for shsh on tinyumbrela ot ifaith

Hi, thanks for your information. Can I downgrade it n do jailbreak? If yes then what's the process of downgrading , I am sorry but I am new into this , please I need detailed information of downgrading . Thanks
Ancoavi - April 10, 2013 at 3:30am
As mention before, yes you can downgrade, but! You'll need to check if you have shsh blob, you can do it with ifaith/tiny umbrella/redsnow You'll have to learn how to check for those, many guides on google. If you don't have saved shsh you have nothing to do. If you have : Ifaith shsh- use snowbreez to downgrade Tinyumbrella or redsnow shsh- use season pass to downgrade Again there are many manuals an methods to do so. You'll have to learn the system of jailbreak you have to know that there can be so many errors but you'll have to master them all Good luck

Hi I went through all the steps and when I get to the restore and pick the right one it seems like its working and extracting then a message pops up The Apple TV "Apple TV" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (11). Any suggestions? Thanks
Ancoavi - March 22, 2013 at 9:23am
Try using seasonpass, I think you have problem with entering DFU mode Good luck Make sure you have the most updated iTunes
Isaac - March 22, 2013 at 1:56pm
I have the updated iTuines and use Seas0npass. It goes through and when its going to restore I get a Error in Itunes this time its a 3194 error.
Ancoavi - March 22, 2013 at 4:06pm
I think your trying to restor to 5.2 but this is unsigned any more by apple, do you have shah for it? If no, then you won't be able to resor to it. I don't think the new OS is jail breakable . Let me know your position
Isaac - March 22, 2013 at 5:44pm
I was on 5.0.2 jail broken with no problems. I had accidentally updated Apple Tv and ill go ahead and do it again it was no problem the first time. I Seas0npass was doing the newest one I think 5.2. I did hear that apple was not siging them and figured I Was in trouble even trying to restore to 5.0.2. I do not have the shsh.
Ancoavi - March 22, 2013 at 6:03pm
Haven't understand you, you are now on what OS 5.2 or higher, Check with tinyUmbrella what shsh you have signature for. Then you'll be able to figure the OS you can jailbreak. If you need to downgrade your OS read how to do that with seasonpass Good luck
Isaac - March 22, 2013 at 6:12pm
I read it and confused myself. I was on an older firmware. i upgrading by accident on iTunes thinking it was my iPad. I saw 5.2 you could jailbreak but I guess it not possible. Just went and saw how to downgrade to 5.0.2 the one I was on and see if that works.
me - March 25, 2013 at 6:24pm
What you need to do is open your season pass ,right click on the Ileft box. This is hopefuly youa re still on ios 5.0.2 Create ISPW.you should restore it easily. If it dodnt work try to use sn0wbrease.in windows. Hope this helps

All your instructions were excellent and easy for me, a nubie, to follow. At the end, iTunes gave me a few error notices, but I just clicked ok on them, switched over to HDMI on my TV remote, and it all seems to work. Next step: Install XBMC :) Thanks SO much for this easy to use software and assistance. I checked the version, and it is at 5.2, and nitoTV is installed, so I am guessing it worked :)
Matt - February 22, 2013 at 11:18am
FYI Guys - XBMC now works with ios 6.1 jailbreak on ATV2. I initially installed via NitoTV which seemed to install OK, but then the ATV wouldn't reboot. I instead installed the latest seasonpass (which supports ios 6.1) and then installed XBMC as in the wiki here : http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=How-to:Install_XBMC_on_Apple_TV_2 (NB the wiki hasn't been updated yet with ios 6.x info, but I heard about it working from another forum so I gave it a go and it works!).
