Apple captured 76% of the Japanese smartphone market last month, according to Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.

The company announced the figure via Twitter:

KWP ComTech Japan: #Apple takes 76% share of Japan Smartphone sales during October, including 61% on #NTT DoCoMo

A recent report also noted that Apple's share of the smartphone market in Japan is now greater than its share of the smartphone market in the United States. The country has emerged as the fastest-growing region for Apple, outpacing the U.S., China, and other countries.

"Apple's brand is just overwhelming here," said Eiji Mori, a Tokyo-based analyst at BCN Inc. "It's not about specifications. It's not about rationale. It's about owning an iPhone."
