Apple Launches iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program

Posted April 25, 2014 at 10:47pm by iClarified
Apple has launched an 'iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button Replacement Program' after determining that the sleep/wake button mechanism on a small percentage of iPhone 5 models may stop working or work intermittently.

Apple will replace the sleep/wake button mechanism, free of charge, on iPhone 5 models that exhibit this issue and have a qualifying serial number.

If your sleep/wake button isn’t working properly, you can enter your iPhone 5 serial number at the link below to see if it qualifies for the program. As of April 25, 2014, the replacement process will be available in the U.S. and Canada. In other countries, it will be available as of May 2, 2014.

Replacement of the sleep/wake button mechanism is done at an Apple Repair Center. There are two ways to send your iPhone to the repair center—carry-in or mail-in. The replacement process takes approximately 4-6 days from the time your iPhone is received at the repair center until it is returned to you.

More details as well as instructions on how to send in you device can be found at the link below...

How about a replacement programe for iPhone itself with Samsung ? Can apple do that since they admit its having problem and recalling the devices ? By the way, Samsung never had to do this. Quality speaks no wonder.

It is "their" fault that they sold faulty equipment.

No, the engineers made it but mainly the os was too much for users to suffer, so they switched because of it.

Which faulty, the one that burns on it's own in the galaxy of lag, or the one that is just secure metal from infections to cause bugs?

John, didn't you know that Samsung boasts about their S5 camera and then had to admit that some units were blacking out. So please don't think that Samsung phones are perfect. No ones is.

I wonder if I'll lose my jailbreak... it's on 7.0.4 right now... I don't want to lose it.

How does replacing the button affect the os version?
CJDJ
CJDJ - April 26, 2014 at 6:31pm
Like if they have to reinstall OS or something... I don't know much about hardware replacement for the iPhone 5. Why do they want you to erase the phone when you send it in? I understand for the privacy stuff... but like apps and whatever else is on there?

I'm on the phone with them now to try to get my iphone 5 fixed. The lady is saying it's just the sleep/wake button but my volume down button is messed up...wouldn't that be part of the 'mechanism'? What exactly is wrong with iPhone 5 sleep/wake button

wow. apple finally pressured because of all the bad pr. i hate when companies do this. only address the problem when it can visibly affect them. otherwise they just deny and deny people. i read a lot of the complaints on various forums.

Yeah, tell me about iPhone 4 home button, what a piece of crap... I wish they would replace that too.

give this a try. i have "fixed" many friends iPhone 4 home button with this. YMMV. DO AT YOUR OWN RISK. find some rubbing alcohol especially high percentage like 70%. just put enough of the liquid to fit in the recess of the home button. push the button repeatedly to allow the liquid to go in and clean the contact with the motion of pushing. i believe some of the home button problems is the fact that dust is introduced slowly eventually affecting the contact point. the rubbing alcohol should clean and restore the function. of course, this is at your own risk as you are putting liquid into your phone. so just use a little and let it work in. the residual liquid will evaporate. i almost have a sneaky suspicion, the power/sleep button problem might be the same. i think that they should just get rid of the home button in the future. in fact, there are some tweak out there to recognize the Fingerprint ring touch as a home button activation. i understand that not have a physical button mean that there is energy being used to detect a home button push. have a physical button can save energy. but again, apple needs to increase the battery capacity by 50% to 100% then introduce this touch home button. then they will address faulty home button in the future. also, achieving more real estate within the device to save space.
