Uncovered iPad Split-Screen Multitasking for iOS 8 in Action [Video]

Posted June 12, 2014 at 2:42am by iClarified
Developer Steven Troughton-Smith has followed up his previous report that iOS 8 Beta has hidden code for running apps side-by-side with a demo video!

UISimulatedApplicationResizeGestureEnabled (iOS 8 iPad split-screen multitasking debug) (video)

The code is demonstrated in iOS Simulator using a mouse, thus the awkward two-finger swipe gesture.

SpringBoard can run apps 1/4 size, 1/2 size, or 3/4 size. It's said that the feature isn't quite ready yet and that's why Apple didn't showcase it at WWDC.

I'll wait until Apple has a product worth promoting. Right now, all they have is the mechanism for switching windows. There's a hell of a lot more work, and it's unlikely to be completed any time soon. That's the nice thing about Apple, instead of rushing half finished technology to market, they wait until they can get the technology to function properly. By the way, I wouldn't ask MS how to do anything with smartphones and tablets. After all, they are hardly a shinning example of success in this market!

Now boys, play nice. There's no sense behaving like a troll while attacking trolls. The idea is to get everyone to behave like adults who respect each other's decisions about which devices to use. There's no reason why EVERYONE needs to run the exact same product, and people who continually harp and spew obscenities don't help people evaluate products. It just turns them off to the site (which, by the way, seems to be Samsung's motive in paying these trolls in the first place).

It needs more development, ask microsoft how to do it.

I wouldn't be asking Microsoft for development advice. Almost every single product they develop is a flop or bleeds money from the start. It's the complete opposite of what apple is doing. I think apple can figure it out for themselves. They've done good so far.

Needs more iq, ask a developer how it's really done.

I heard it mentioned that this feature would only be on the iPad Air. Since the Mini (R) has the exact same resolution and processor that wouldn't make sense.

Still nothing revealed once about it, may as well not matter. Just saying.
