Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will begin volume production on its 16nm process in the first quarter of 2015 for Apple's upcoming A9 processor, according to an Economic Daily News (EDN) relayed by DigiTimes.

TSMC originally planned to kicked off 16nm volume production in second-quarter 2015. TSMC faces strong competition from Samsung Electronics' foundry business. TSMC's initial monthly output is said to be 50,000 wafers.
