Apple has new display at the Regent Street Apple Store in London that features iPad Smart Covers that open by themselves.
The video below was highlighted on reddit by smickie. It shows a row of five iPads standing on end with different color Smart Covers. The Smart Covers take turns magically opening on their own.
There's no word yet on how Apple rigged up this display but you can take a look and try to figure it out by watching the video below...

The display is so smooth it almost looks like magic. You should go see it!

Definitely magnets but there is also another secret to it.
Those smart covers are different than the ones they sell in store. They are missing the magnets that help the cover to stay in place when closed. Hence - there is no resistance for the hidden magnets when they are opening the cover.

The Store in Atlanta Ga. has a similar display on both sides of the entry door, but not on a table rather a proper display. There were no magnets or wires attached to the covers. The covers would bend and open. These may be special covers.

I am not sure if this is a feature many users would find practical for personal use.

I find it creative.

If we jailbreak it, can it be open by itself still?

Yes. It's not like it affects the parts inside or the display.

Nope, it voids the Apple magic. But a restore can fix that right back up.

I can't see magnet in Cydia, hopefully someone develops something so that it doesn't void anything when jailbroken.

The table is set with magnets and if you look at the far right, it's plugged in for the motorized method.

The table probably has something to do with it, just a theory.

Yep, easy enough. Magnet hooked up to the corner of the Smart Cover. You can tell they don't quite all open the same, because only the corner is connected.

Not sure if homekit enabled that allows this or just a concept of the new cases. Since nothing it holding them up so easily let alone the cases moving, this makes more concern to me.
