Tom's Guide has put the Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4, Apple iPhone 6, and several other popular smartphones through a series of performance tests.
The site tested the smartphones using a variety of methods, including: PDF Load Time, Camera Open Time, Gaming Performance, Video Editing, Geekbench, Basemark OSII System, Basemark OSII Memory, 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited, and Wi-Fi Speed.
Overall, it determined that the Samsung Galaxy S6 was the fastest device, followed by the LG G4, then the iPhone 6.
With its homegrown Exynos 7420 CPU, DDR4 memory and speedy UFS storage, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is the fastest phone you can buy right now. In both real-world tests and synthetic benchmarks, the S6 finished first in 6 out of 9 tests, and it never finished lower than third in the other three. So for those who need the best performance, your search ends at Samsung.

When newer devices outperform Apple in benchmarks, it often leads to strong reactions regarding which device is truly superior.

gamerscul9870 - July 13, 2015 at 12:30pm
Or because a phone is released more later than iPhone so what's the excuse if calling a device released way after iPhone superior in the first place? Android users can always accept how their latest OS can't make a total advantage of their obsolete phone. And by that, some older models can't support androids released 2 or 3 years after the phones release compared to iOS how 4s is still staying alive with the latest iOS.

Please someone put a comparison between iPhone 4 vs Galaxy S 2. And that will prove the actual power of Samsung. After 5 years my iPhone 4 is still rocking though it's without Apple software support but my S2 is unusable ! That's the reliability of Apple. And intelligent people trust on quality but not quantity.

No matter how old Apple products work even if they are using the technology we live with, it still survives in any way.

I remember my first time with galaxy tab. Boy it doesn't compete with iPad 1. Galaxy s hardware doesn't stay up to date. If people used more older versions of android which means more users on them, that explains what he's saying. Plus the Galaxy started because of iPhone, so how can it compete?

jbelkin - June 30, 2015 at 3:36am
yea, samsung writes code to do great on speed tests ... that's android for you - and the extent of the OS.

gamerscul9870 - June 30, 2015 at 4:06am
Or they just released a new phone with more modern technology after months of the 6 being out. Samsungs doesn't own android ntm. iOS still gets the most latest users so that's iOS for you for so many causes.

I find it funny that when Apple is beating the competition and they have better specs you all say oh its not about the specs blah blah blah. But when Apple loses its because have lower specs, but look how close it is with lower specs. Face it Apple isn't the best. Its ok for people to make their own choices and what phone to get. It doesn't matter if they choose Android over iPhone. Just get what you want and be happy.

gamerscul9870 - June 28, 2015 at 12:21pm
First off, phones released after Apple doesn't prove anything because the more later a phone is released, the more new specs it will has because technology never stops growing, but what does this comparison prove between phones released in different years? Of course a new phone will be faster. 2. People say iPhone has better specs because stuff just works let alone faster speed even if that matters or not. 3. If Apple isn't the best, why is their OS still being the latest used for every new one released for OS X and iOS, plus if you look back on the keynotes, it proves how much Apple is doing against the industry and how much all that compares to android which was mentioned as a toxic hell stew. Not to mention how much some old models support new iOS versions and Mac versions like they mentioned below.

Woz - June 28, 2015 at 10:26pm
Wait so if the CEO of Apple says that Android is a bunch of hell stew that makes it right? Look you like iOS. OK great. Thats fine. But iOS can't do what I, keyword is I, do with my Android phone. I want a 1080P screen with front facing speakers and the ability to root my phone and customize it anyway I want. I want the freedom to move to whichever version of the OS I like and not have to worry about getting root in 6 months.

gamerscul9870 - June 28, 2015 at 11:32pm
Android itself has nothing to do with what the phone is built with despite its function to work with its parts but let alone that, besides front facing speakers take up all the bezel since that's how they are built. Not that it's a problem, but it barely changes the way you hear sound, but to me I don't see a point. Front facing camera looks clear enough from what my friends on snapchat do with theirs. It's not like I take pictures using it anyway. Plus you do realize iOS still uses jailbreak and can be done with or without a Mac depending on which carrier it runs to be tethered or untethered yet compared to android, jailbreak adds gestures, dimension to apps and effects to them, a but extra code for iOS to support it better even if Apple couldn't do it but would hurt them anyway. As long as keeping the jailbreak goes, as long as older Apple products don't support future iOS versions and can forever last on the old ones, everything's good.

So jailbreaking your iPhone turns it basically into an Android phone? Then why not just get an Android phone. And Apple hates jailbreak. Its a security flaw.

Wow, impressive the S6 is 6 milliseconds faster at opening the camera than the iPhone 6. Completely pointless test, is is suppose to make me desire a S6.

Woz - June 28, 2015 at 8:45am
What is funny though is that if the iPhone were 6 milliseconds faster you would come one here and say, "Oh look once again the great God Apple beat the competitors."

Interesting that they didn't compare the much faster iPhone 6plus. Can't imagine why.

I colina - June 27, 2015 at 5:37pm
Because Iphone 6 Plus is slower than iphone 6
Because larger screen means more pixels to push
Gues why

You cannot buy a phone every year just to catch up with the speed. My iPhone is still snappier with every update and also becomes more secure. I only upgrade my devices when I cannot update the OS. I can't see that with Samsung phones. An iPhone 5 is S3's equivalent and S3 is now obsolete because it cannot be updated to their latest OS. My iPhone 5 will get the latest iOS9 when it arrive this fall. And for me every iOS update feels like a new phone.
0
RWR - June 27, 2015 at 3:08pm
And will slow the hell down once you keep updating it, just like how it happened on the s3. If anything, updates push and force you to want to get the newest iPhone at outrageously high prices. Now if you get say an iPhone 6 near launch date for under $500, then that's a different story

Mang Domeng - June 27, 2015 at 6:27pm
Didn't experience that one? Mine is still snappier. I can live without the latest features in the updates like the slow-mo in the camera app but still I don't have problems running newer apps because my phone is always up-to-date. My brother ditched his S3 because he cannot update some apps and needs the latest Android OS. With updates I am sure that my phone is secure and feels like new. Why bother catch up with you guys who always run for the latest phones because of speed?! Take note that iOS9 will still run on iPhone 4S. Apple knows their thing and they want to keep everybody happy.

I'm with you on this one Matt. Not a problem I have ever had no matter how many times I update my devices and aim using an iPad Air and a 5s. iOS 9 hinting at running every old Apple product is a sign of how much support it can have along with less GB to use now.

Comparing a year old phone with the newest from the competition... Good job.

gamerscul9870 - June 27, 2015 at 12:15pm
More like half a year old.

For a spec that is far more powerful than the iphone 6, samsung is only 6ms fast in opening the camera than iphone 6 with a dual core processor and 1 gb ram. Think about that

Real world - June 27, 2015 at 6:08am
iPhone basically had shared first place in both real world test so I don't see how this is relevant... it also has faster non first time app launches, which is what takes up most of your time...

Stealther - June 27, 2015 at 2:54am
For those who said you don't about the speed, then why Apple is trying to make a faster better phone every year and you're upgrading? You are just like the Chinese saying "you said the grapes are sour, just because you can't get to taste it".
0
gamerscul9870 - June 27, 2015 at 3:47am
What they meant was for how good a phone works or any out there trying to compete by being faster let alone iPhone getting greater speed.
0
gamerscul9870 - June 27, 2015 at 1:55am
As long as anything works fine no matter how fast, that's enough to tell where that is headed.

s6 is the most wonderful design that samsung ever make. and it's the fastest device til now. but, it's still android: the performance will degrade overtime... i love my s6 edge, but my iphone still the one i trusted

one apple a day - June 27, 2015 at 12:40am
my iPhone 4s still works great. so does my iPhone 6 plus. I don't believe Samsung would ever impress me in its product design; I just turn to the original designer to appreciate that.

Where da steve - June 26, 2015 at 10:46pm
This is meant to happen. iOS has been on top rank for OS compatibility and optimization within their devices. But time goes on, and Android is catching up. It wasn't the iPhone's spec that allowed iPhones to perform better than Android. It was OS optimization. And if Android catches up with iOS's optimization, its no brainer to see Android phones to perform better since they have better components. There's reason why it costs 40-45% more to make Samsung phones than Apple. They'll need strong computing power to perform ok in an OS like Android. But they been looking pretty good recently.

gamerscul9870 - June 26, 2015 at 11:32pm
If you're trying to say that more newer parts it what makes the phone faster, not only is that no surprise but yes it makes sense. It's just that newer phones use newer technology way after another phone is released.

Where da steve - June 27, 2015 at 12:02am
Not really. Apple is well-known as manufacturer that never follows top notch components when they make phones. Which explains why we are still stuck in dual core and 1GB ram. Its the OS optimization that allowed iPhones to function faster. Even 2 years older phones can run faster than iPhone 6 if Android was as same level as iOS but i highly doubt that'll happen anytime soon

gamerscul9870 - June 27, 2015 at 12:37am
most old phones run like they are on par with iPhone, but when Apple finally makes a chip with 2gb of ram, wait for it to skyrocket like iPad Air 2 did when ot got an extra GB of ram. Most phones released after iPhone then will run about less than half the speed of the iPhone 6s and so forth. If you're wondering what I mean about extra GB of ram and all, it's the same chip process of iPad and iPhone using the same chip unless iPad has an a#x chip for slight improvements to the one on the iPhone, but what I mean is this time, iPhone before the new iPad gets what older iPads have gotten (5s, iPad Air, 6, iPad Air 2, etc.) in that pattern.
