Early benchmarks for the 9.7-inch iPad Pro reveal that Apple has slightly underclocked its processor compared to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
TechCrunch Editor in Chief Matthew Panzarino posted his Geekbench results to Twitter earlier today. The 9.7-inch iPad Pro features an A9X processor, same as the 12.9-inch; however, it is clocked at 2.16 GHz compared to 2.24 GHz for the larger tablet.
The 9.7-inch iPad Pro received a single-core benchmark score of 3022 and a multi-core score of 5107. That's slightly less than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro which has a single-core score of 3224 and a multi-core score of 5466.

This is disappointing. I have been waiting for a new iPad hoping that they can bring more power for us normal iPad users. But now it is $100 more expensive, no 64GB version, and only 2GB with downclocked CPU. Why call it iPad Pro? At least this makes the 12-inch iPad Pro more appealing.

It's 2gb ram because of the screen size that it only needs enough of it. Who knows what too much does. Also, just flat out not calling it pro is an understatement. MacBook pros are called Pro's because of how it's built compared to the air, but even the air can have about the same power like that. So what, that's enough to call the air a pro to? Not to mention in the article, it still says iPad pro 9.7-inch uses a little less ghz which isn't that big of a difference compared to the 12-inch.

You're wrong. RAM is for how much you can have running at the same time. The screen has to do with the processor.

iPad 9.7-inch models only need 2GB RAM because of the screen size and software optimization, similar to the iPhones.

RAM has nothing to do with screen size. The underclocked processor may be because of the smaller screen, but RAM relates to how many programs/apps you can run at the same time. Apple likely reduced the RAM to differentiate between the 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch models.

I think it was a mistake to call it iPad Pro instead of iPad. I thought they got rid of the 12.9 inch at first; it's just going to be more confusing.

Lame? It's still past 2Ghz and you flat out call it a no pro? Do you know why it's named pro in the first place other than processor power?

Smaller screen size need less processor power, I guess apple don't want the 9.7" pro over power the bigger flagship version.

Disappointing move by Apple. Should've just been called iPad.

Unless of course it's enough to power multitasking and everything else that's involved with it just as much as the 12-inch pro version does so...

Ya but they're all over the place. So far a weak start to 2016 for Apple

I think the start of something this year not weak was standing on their ground against fbi.

Ya and I have huge respect for Apple that they're the only people that care about that. Hopefully wwdc and the fall event will have magic
