iPhone Hacked to Work With NFC Devices [Video]

Jailbreak developer Elias Limneos has posted a video demonstrating the usage of 'locked' NFC functions on the iPhone.

Playing with the “locked” NFC chip on iPhone :D

Recent Apple devices have an NFC chip used for specific features like Apple Pay. Unfortunately, Apple hasn't allowed developers to use the chip to communicate with other NFC equipped devices.

In Limneos' proof of concept video we can see the iPhone alert to the presence of an NFC device and then alert again when it's absent. Of course, this requires a jailbroken iPhone.

It appears we'll soon see a tweak that can enable greater NFC functionality on compatible devices. On Twitter, Limeos says, "Sure I’ll release, I’ll finish my tests and release it." He also notes, "I guess this is how I’ll be unlocking my car doors from now on."

I just spent over $1000 for my iphone 7plus, now i need to go though this to get my iphone to work with nfc? Will get it refund tomorrow and buy android phone for instead, which cost 1/3 of the price and comes with nfc.

Elias is a very reputable dev on Cydia so no turning to the dark side or careless handling and putting the iPhone at a risk. Looking forward to this like the CarPlay tweak!!! O.O

Can someone explain the implications on the secure enclave. I thought NFC was a part of that?

Nfc is just like wifi or Bluetooth. It's a communications technology. When you put your credit card info in the apple wallet, it's data gets saved to to enclaves, which is basically just a chip that's encrypted so that other apps can't access the data, the enclave(memory chip separate from the regular memory but encrypted to keep outside attacks from accessing the data) can then release the credit card info to the wallet app once the finger print is read and and nfc communication is detecting a special signal that Apple programmed for retailers to use in their also nfc enabled credit card processing terminals. When the enclave gives out the credit card info, Apple actually generates a one time use credit card that the retailer uses to charge the money and then Apple forwards that charge to your card. And the retailer has to pay extra fees to accept that one time use Apple credit card and that's how Apple is making money off people using Apple Pay. So moral of the story, just use the chip in your credit card(which also creates a one time use special number for the retailer so that they can't recharge your card or if hackers hacked the terminal or the servers, they won't be able to use your credit card) instead of Apple Pay and don't use the magnetic chip cause that can be reused if the hackers got a copy of it.
