"Maybe soon we will announce it. I am already working on it," DJ Koh, president of Samsung's mobile division told CNBC in an interview ahead of the Note 8 smartphone launch.
"As I mentioned I wanted to provide a fruitful user experience at home with Samsung devices, and I want to be moving quite heavily on it," Koh said.
Samsung is looking to make Bixby, its digital personal assistant, the center of its ambitions for the smart home space. The smart speaker with Bixby could be used to control lights, TVs, and even appliances.
A report from last month, claimed Samsung's smart speaker was codenamed 'Vega'. Progress on the device was reportedly held back by the slow launch of Bixby in the United States; however, it Bixby is now available and Samsung just announced plans to expand the digital assistant to over 200 countries and territories.
It's unclear if Samsung will be able to release the device before the holiday shopping season. Apple's HomePod is scheduled for release in December.
