Steve Jobs' Biological Father Regrets Not Being Part of His Life

Posted August 28, 2011 at 9:27pm by iClarified
The New York Post has profiled Abdulfattah John Jandali, Steve Jobs' biological father. Jandali, 80, is VP of a Reno casino and a workaholic just like Jobs.

The Syrian immigrant says he is overcome with guilt for his treatment of Jobs and only learned recently that the child he gave up for adoption was the famous CEO.

"This might sound strange, though, but I am not prepared, even if either of us was on our deathbeds, to pick up the phone to call him," Jandali said.

"Steve will have to do that, as the Syrian pride in me does not want him ever to think I am after his fortune," he said.

"Now I just live in hope that, before it is too late, he will reach out to me, because even to have just one coffee with him just once would make me a very happy man," he said.

Jandali says although he was in love with his now ex-wife Joanne, her father was a tyrant and would not allow her to marry him since he was from Syria. Joanne then upped and moved to San Francisco to give birth to Jobs without her family or Jandali knowing.

"She did not want to bring shame onto the family and thought this was the best for everyone."

enrico: Don't you think that at least some of the roughly 1 billion Arabs in the world can be nice people (I am not one of them, BTW)?

enrico: Making a spelling mistake (especially in English, and all the more so for a non-native speaker) is not an indication of any lack of intelligence. Do you really think that it is right to hate people just because of what language they speak of who their parents are? Is that what the world needs? (Again, I am not an Arab and I also don't like many of the things some of them do, but I don't let that make me besmirch them as a whole).

@Alladin $350k/yr? Why are people hating on you? If this is really your own business, I'd definitely like to pursue a networking opportunity. Frankly, that should of been everyone's reaction... Idiots. I too am currently operating my own business, and although it is sustaining my lifestyle I do imagine things would be at lot easier if there were someone with more experience to guide me through the potential bear traps. Do reply if interested.

Don't you all think that instead of wasting time saying who hates who, you could all have saved this time to do some good? Hate takes people from growing and a whole nation only grows if everyone grows together, not putting others down, but by saving the effort to personal growth. If people stopped worrying where other people are from or what their background is, and instead, help and ask for help when needed, wouldn't the world be a better place? No matter where we all come from, we will all die one day, proving we are all equals!

Hello Dante and thanks for your kind words I'm in the dental field, briefly, and I have no problem sharing my story, I own and operate one of the biggest dental labs in my area, but that's not where it ends, I graduated in France over 20 years ago, moved to the US and took 2 years of dentistry but never finished due to lack of money, I worked in a dental lab for couple of years then opened my own. Couple of years later, I started opening dental offices and hiring newly graduated and retired dentists, once a dentist felt comfortable to move on his own, I offered him 49% partnership, I currently own beside my lab, 4 dental offices. Dear Fred I don't hate no one, but I can't stand haters, as you very well put it, we are all equals.God bless you and everyone else.

The regret, in my opinion, should be equally shared by both bio-parents and not just the father. However in this case, more so with the mother, whatever maybe her reasons. Having said these words, I would say that life has always been strange and weird. Only when the dust settles does one know the outcome. In Mr. Jobs case, I'm glad it did and the way he beat the hell out of all odds to become what he is today. I wish him well.
