Google has revealed the new Nexus Q, a small media playing sphere that lets you easily stream music and video to your TV.

It's great to be able to take your entertainment with you wherever you go, but sometimes you want to ditch the headphones and enjoy music with friends and family. So we're introducing Nexus Q, which combines the power of Android and Google Play to easily stream music and video in your home-all controlled by an Android phone or tablet. Designed and engineered by Google, Nexus Q is a small sphere that plugs into the best speakers and TV in your house. It's the first-ever social streaming device-like a cloud-connected jukebox where everyone brings their own music to the party.

You can preorder Nexus Q today from Google Play for $299, and it will ship mid-July. Check out the introductory video below for more information...

$300? For what Apple already does better at only $100? Apple not only plays music and movies, it also let's you share virtually ANYTHING on your iOS on the TV.

^lawsuit? you really think apple was the first to make a set top box? appletv blows without jailbreak and even then only the newest appletv would be any good. So many better options out there.

Apple has responded to that complaint. The problem isn't with developing a product, it's with content. As it is, they can SELL content, or provide AirPlay, but they're restricted by the Govt from doing any more. That's why they're looking to sell a complete TV solution. However, that requires them selling an actual TV set, not a box to accompany existing TVs, and every house is going to want their own sized TV, ranging from 30" to 80", and Apple isn't very good at custom producing massive amounts of models.

just to complement, you can AirPlay everything from iOS and OSX (Start from Mountain Lion) it is fantastic. but i agree the AppleTV without Jailbreak is just a nice black box. here in Germany, a AppleTV 2 are been sold in ebay for 150 euro, the AppleTV 3 are sold under 100 euro.
