iOS 6 Reveals New Dock Connector to Have 9 Pins?

References in iOS 6 may have revealed that the rumored mini dock connector for the next iPhone may have 9 pins as opposed to 19 or 8 as previously thought.

In late July, Reuters reported that new iPhone would feature a 19-pin dock connector. Then last week iLounge issued a report saying the dock connector would have just 8 pins.

Today, 9to5Mac says they've found references in iOS 6 that seem to indicate it will actually be a 9-pin connector.

We discovered a possible reference to a 9-pin dock connector in the iOS 6 beta. The reference comes as a new iOS hardware feature called "9Pin," so we're assuming this has to do with the dock connector. Obviously, there is no way to be 100% about this.

Notably, the reference is in a part of the OS that details general hardware features for iOS devices. This is taken to mean that Apple will be implementing the smaller connector for than just the iPhone.

It would be very awesome if it's magnetic like TE MacBooks

Right on! You cares if it has one pin? Move along nothing here.

Are we really obsessing over the amount of pins the connector has? 8, 9, this what's important? I find it hard to get wrapped up in a difference of one pin even for an Apple fan. If its smaller, fine. If not, my life will go on. If they don't change it at all, I think I will manage to find a little more meaning for my life other than obsessively scrolling through this blog.

I think your missing the point, the significance is not that there is 1 pin difference to a previous rumour. The significance is that there appears to be something tangible that may be backing up the general rumour of a smaller dock connector. I just hope that this doesn't mean all the other rumors are true. I was expecting much more from "Steve's last iPhone"!
