Reuters Confirms 19-Pin Dock Connector for New iPhone

Posted July 23, 2012 at 8:52am by
Reuters is confirming reports that the new iPhone will feature a smaller 19-pin dock connector.

The iPhone 5, Apple's next generation iPhone expected to go on sale around October, will come with a 19-pin connector port at the bottom instead of the proprietary 30-pin port "to make room for the earphone moving to the bottom", two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The change is expected to be a business opportunity for accessory makers.

"It represents an opportunity for accessory vendors," said Pete Cunningham, from technology research firm Canalys. "The iPhone connector has been a standard for a long time now and I would expect the same to be true for a new connector, should Apple change it as expected."

Last month, TechCrunch also confirmed Apple is replacing the current 30-pin port on the iPhone with a new smaller 19-pin port.

A while back I remember reading a story about how apple handled leaking information, it seem pretty strict with emails directly from Steve; but it now seems as if after Steve's death everybody is leaking info... I'm still hoping to have an iPhone 5 with a round back like the iPhone 3G it was softer to touch and grab!!
