WhatsApp Events Now Lets You Invite Friends Who Don't Use WhatsApp

WhatsApp is expanding Events so friends without an account can view invitations and RSVP without downloading the app. The update brings event planning beyond existing WhatsApp chats, allowing organizers to reach guests through a shared link.

Organizers can create an event, add a cover photo, and send the invitation to their guests. A new Events Home brings invitations and RSVP management together, with an option for guests to add a plus-one.

The hub is accessible under Settings > Events and lists past and upcoming gatherings, including those a user has created or been invited to. Planning tools also include custom reminders, which WhatsApp previously introduced for events in group chats.

The broader invitations come with privacy restrictions. WhatsApp says a user's phone number is not shown to guests they do not know, and people without an account only see the event address after they RSVP. Personal messages and calls remain end-to-end encrypted.

The updated Events experience is rolling out over the coming weeks, so it may not appear for everyone immediately. WhatsApp Messenger is available free from the App Store.
