WhatsApp is updating its group chat experience with three new features aimed at better organization and expression. The messaging service announced today that it is rolling out member tags, text-based stickers, and new options for event reminders.
Member Tags stands out as a practical tool for larger communities where it isn't always clear who is who. The feature lets you assign a specific title to your profile within a group, giving others immediate context about your role without them having to dig into your profile details. You could tag yourself as "Goalkeeper" in a sports thread or "Anna's Dad" in a school chat. Since these tags are customizable for each group, a title you set in a work chat won't follow you into a conversation with friends.
WhatsApp is also adding a new way to turn text into graphics. With Text Stickers, you can type a word or phrase into the Sticker Search bar and the app will generate a sticker version of it. It's a simple way to make a message pop visually without leaving the chat interface. You can add these creations directly to your sticker pack immediately, skipping the usual step of having to send them in a chat first.
Scheduling gets a tweak, too. When organizers create an event within a group, they can now set custom early reminders for guests. This is designed to nudge people at the right moment—whether they need extra lead time to commute to a physical location or just a quick alert to hop on a call.
These changes arrive alongside a steady stream of recent improvements for Apple users. Late last year, the platform finally introduced a native app for Apple Watch, allowing users to handle voice messages and view images from their wrist. WhatsApp also recently rolled out support for Live Photos on iPhone and added an in-app translation tool to help with cross-language conversations.
