Apple is looking for a strategic product design leader to help shape future health, well-being, and fitness experiences for its Vision Products Group, offering one of the clearest public indications yet of the company's long-term ambitions for Vision devices.
A recent job listing seeks a candidate with experience developing digital health and fitness products to help "define the future of health, well-being and fitness experiences across vision products." Apple also says the role will involve translating opportunities at the intersection of spatial computing, wearables, consumer health, and human behavior into product direction, with an emphasis on sensor-driven experiences. Together, the requirements suggest Apple is placing greater emphasis on wellness features as it develops future Vision products.
Apple previously explored bringing immersive Fitness+ experiences to the Vision Pro, using the headset's body-tracking capabilities to analyze a user's movements during workouts, according to Mark Gurman. Those plans never materialized because the headset proved too heavy for exercise and other technical hurdles prevented the feature from reaching consumers.
As Apple's long-term Vision strategy expands beyond enclosed headsets, Gurman has reported the company is developing acetate-framed smart glasses targeted for a 2027 reveal. He believes smart glasses are ultimately a more practical platform for health and fitness experiences than a bulky headset. While he does not expect first-generation models to include advanced biometric sensors, the new hiring effort suggests Apple is already planning beyond the initial release.
The strategy would mirror Apple's broader wearables playbook. The Apple Watch and AirPods both debuted with core functionality before steadily gaining health features over multiple generations. Gurman believes Apple intends to follow a similar path with future smart glasses, even if the first generation arrives without advanced biometric capabilities.
