Samsung Mocks iPhone Duo Screen Failures With Galaxy Z Fold8 Ads

Samsung Canada is mocking the iPhone Duo's reported inner-display failures in a new campaign promoting the Galaxy Z Fold8. The ads use simulated screen damage to interrupt photos, echoing the bright lines some Duo owners have reported.

The Instagram campaign pairs the images with the lines "Folding is nothing new to us" and "Folding. We know a thing or eight." It closes with a direct invitation: "Switch to Galaxy Z Fold8."

The three images show a child with a dog, a girl eating a doughnut, and a spiral staircase. Each has a dark vertical line down the middle and a bright horizontal streak extending from it. They are campaign artwork, rather than photographs documenting an actual device failure.

Apple has acknowledged an inner-display issue affecting a small number of iPhone Duo units and told affected owners to contact AppleCare for a replacement. The company has said most units are not susceptible and that affected devices appear to develop the issue relatively quickly after use. It has not disclosed a failure rate.

Customer reports have described unusual resistance or crunching while opening the phone, followed by damage near the fold. An iFixit investigation identified possible hinge-related stress points, but the cause remains unconfirmed. A separate teardown found a broken hinge link after deliberate stress testing, which does not establish why some owners have reported failures during normal use.
