Motorola has posted an ad mocking the new Maps application in iOS 6.
The ad features the iPhone 5 next to the Motorola Droid Razr M. Both phones have performed a maps search for '315 e 15th st ny'. The iPhone apparently locates 315 Marborough Rd; whereas, the Razr M is shown to find the correct address.
Apple recently issued a statement following criticism of the application.
"Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service," spokeswoman Trudy Muller told AllThingsD. "We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover and Siri integration, and free turn by turn navigation. We launched this new map service knowing that it is a major initiative and we are just getting started with it. We are continuously improving it, and as Maps is a cloud-based solution, the more people use it, the better it will get. We're also working with developers to integrate some of the amazing transit apps in the App Store into iOS Maps. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better."

The new maps for iOS aren't nearly as bad as everyone makes out. Plus, damn Motorola: another fugly looking phone. I'll take a few mis-guided directions over holding that plastic POS any day.
US is probably one of few places on the world where companies can compare their products with others, mislead customers and make a shitty advertisements :-) Like the first time I was in Texas and I saw tv ad with FORD (don't know what type it was, but i'm pretty sure that it was not Shelby Cobra) overtaking Audi RS. LoL. Sorry nothing against FORD :-) but lol never ever! In our country It is not allowed even to say in tv, radio whatever advertisement that "Our cleaning powder is better than ... " :-) Now I can see the reasons. Companies are comparing absolutely different things, regardless if it is true or false.
Yes on that picture above, i can see TomTom vs Google Maps. And it is true Google Maps are better. Than what? Than #iLost? Wtf? Than TomTom of course. Does it mean then, that Motorola is better than iPhone? :-) Sorry I still prefer to buy the Audi RS6 :-) whatever navigation system is inside :-) ... And I would rather get lost, than "FixedOrRepairDaily"
US comparing ads are tragedy, sometimes really funny but that's all. :-) This is not even funny.
For all we know there is no such thing as 315 E 15th St. NY. In Apple Maps there's 310 and 318. It's a corner next to a park from what I can see. Apple maps tried to give you 315 instead of 15th street. That's where the error is. If you take out the 315 and just leave it at E 15th St NY, it takes you there. This software is still in Beta.
My friend said "What about John St. Tullow, Ireland? What if I want to meet you there and it sends you somewhere else. I looked it up. Apple Maps sends me straight there. Maps.Google.Com gives me a blank grid with nothing on the map. I can look it up in my computer through Google Maps. Finds it, then when I zoom in the street name changes from English to Irish and now u have no clue where I am.
All they had to say was:
"Dear Google,
Just type it properly:
315 E 15th St. New York, NY 10003
And it takes you exactly there.
Regards,
Apple"
And if you don't believe me try it on your iPhone.
Moto makes great stuff. The original Razr was great. Now they trade off the name. Moto phones just aren't as good now as the competition. The maps flaw is interesting. I left an opening apostrophe in the search string and it found the intended location. But the search string is ambiguous. NY is the state, not the city. NYC is the city. Still fails that way without the state using NYC. Marlborough road is also 15th street. Moto is just arguing Apple choose Brooklyn over Manhattan in am ambiguous search term.
I think this ad is a fail because by putting the two phones next to each other, Motorola is actually showing Apple's design superiority and how much more beautiful the iPhone is.
And it's not like that's Motorola's own maps app, its Google Maps!!
If you like a phone that looks like a brick.
And IMO an ugly ass homescreen just packed with square boxes. Then by all mean go by the iphone nobody is stopping you.
Motorola is no where near apple. These other companies are fed up of apple as no one is buying their products and will soon be out of business. Instead of mocking cant they make a decent add. They all are comparing with apple cause Apple is the daddy
You folks do remember Google only bought Motorola Mobility. Motorola Solutions is the firm that makes the police radios, radios for NASA et cetera. Google doesn't own them. The failing mobile / cell phone spinoff is what Google bought. Almost like the moto split was designed to clear out the deadwood division ... Moto cell phones have struggled since the rebound they made with the original Razr. A mighty fine phone I might add! The latest plastic fantastic versions are less exciting.
Lol you mean apple chose to focus on litigations instead of making product that can out-perform Samsung products! I got my iPhone5 now and its crap compared to galaxy s3, I should have just stayed with the 4s since there isnt much improvements to iPhone5..

So with the comment about if you don't have a 4 or newer you get those maps... So you are saying Motorola is comparing there phone against a 3GS that is 3 years old. Glad they are on their A game... LOL. They should "try" and go up against the 5
