Adobe has posted their thoughts on the iPad's lack of Flash noting that Apple continues to impose restrictions on their devices which 'limits both content publishers and consumers'.
----- It was really exciting to see some of the technologies that Adobe has contributed to, like PDF and ePub support, taking center stage in the launch. Adobe technology is at the center of virtually every print and digital workflow, so undoubtedly a lot of what you¹ll see getting delivered to the iPad will have originated in Adobe creative software.
But, as a picture posted on Engadget shows (below), and many others have reported, there's something important missing from Apple's approach to connecting consumers to content.
It looks like Apple is continuing to impose restrictions on their devices that limit both content publishers and consumers. Unlike many other ebook readers using the ePub file format, consumers will not be able to access ePub content with Apple's DRM technology on devices made by other manufacturers. And without Flash support, iPad users will not be able to access the full range of web content, including over 70% of games and 75% of video on the web.
If I want to use the iPad to connect to Disney, Hulu, Miniclip, Farmville, ESPN, Kongregate, or JibJab -- not to mention the millions of other sites on the web -- I'll be out of luck. -----
John Gruber from Daring Fireball recently posted his arguments for why Flash should not be on the tablet.
Flash is the number one cause of crashes on computing devices. Mainly due to bad coding. Because of that, Apple would be taking the heat for making a product that would appear to be a piece of crap when Flash and bad coding is really to blame. On a device like a mobile phone, that just not acceptable. Apple is waiting for HTML5 to be adapted to solve the flash issue.
Exactly why I wouldnt get it. That and of course only 64g of memory, cannot use my sim, but a micro sim...dont get me wrong, I love my itouch, mac and iphone...but this is really just a large itouch.
No Flash support on the iPad is a dealbreaker for me. To not have it on the iPhone is bad but I can live with it but not acceptable on a surfing device like iPad to use at home.
I'm sure we will see some nice Android based "iPad's" with Flash support, less restrictions and more features.
I don't think iPad will be another iPhone like success at all.
