Microsoft is working on new operating system codenamed 'Windows Blue' which will be released in mid-2013, according to The Verge.
The update on the Windows side, due in mid-2013, will include UI changes and alterations to the entire platform and pricing. We’re told that Microsoft is aiming to make Windows Blue the next OS that everyone installs. The approach is simple, Microsoft will price its next Windows release at a low cost or even free to ensure users upgrade. Once Windows Blue is released, the Windows SDK will be updated to support the new release and Microsoft will stop accepting apps that are built specifically for Windows 8, pushing developers to create apps for Blue. Windows 8 apps will continue to run on Blue despite the planned SDK changes.
Windows Blue will reportedly kick off an annual release schedule for Microsoft similar to the frequency with which Apple updates its operating system.

Hope they put the option of using a regular start button on desktop installations.

Just download (Classic Shell) here - http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/. Or you can get Start8 from Stardock which gives a better look and feel for 5 bucks. There is always a solution to every situation, you just have to use Google more often to figure it out. Remember Google is free and your friend...lol

I'm guessing this is an unofficial acknowledgement that they now consider Windows 8 to have been a worse failure than Vista was. Personally, I like the idea of them separating their Windows environment from their tablet one. Not every desktop/laptop is a tablet, and serious users shouldn't have to pretend like it is. But, personally, it'd better be DAMN cheap, as I have NO intention of switching off of Windows 7 unless I see something demonstrably better!

Ahh, this Blue is not as deep as the BSOD blue. I like this naming scheme/idea though. Should've thought about this before 8 though.

Probably not the wisest marketing savvy to codename your next flagship product something that's usually followed by "...Screen of Death"
