The Hailo taxi app has received approval for use in New York City as part of a pilot program.

Use Hailo to get a cab wherever you are, whenever you want. All it takes is a tap of your iPhone. After you arrive, you can simply jump out of the cab - payment is automatic and a receipt is emailed to you instantly.

Hail from your home, office or restaurant. No more standing in the rain, arm flailing - now cabs come to you.

Last week, Uber became the first taxicab app to be approved for use in New York City and there was some controversy with Hailo also launching its service although it was not approved to do so. Now it appears this has been resolved and both companies are allowed to operate in the city.

You can download Hailo from the App Store for free.
