Check out this video that compares the boot speed of the iPad 1 vs. iPad 2. vs. iPad 3 vs. iPad 4 vs. iPad Air vs. iPad mini 1 vs. iPad mini 2.

All seven iPads were freshly restored to the latest firmware possible (iOS 7.0.4 for everyone but the iPad 1), fully charged, with no SIM card inserted.

The counter was started from the exact moment each device received USB signal and stopped as soon as slide-to-unlock appeared.

it is a stupid test because all devices boot up fast when they are clean right after a restore.

gamerscul9870 - December 7, 2013 at 1:49am

I don't own an ipad 4 since the air came out, both do good bur ipad air is slightly faster charging. What's stupid about the test? It proves how it adds up power to everything.

odedoo1 - December 7, 2013 at 2:31am

My iPad 3 also takes forever but its jailbroken and all 64GB are being used so thats that.

odedoo1 - December 7, 2013 at 2:48am

Just last night i got the iPad Air 128GB/Cellular and its sure does boots up fast, right now i started restoring from the iCloud all 64GB of Apps from my iPad 3 which will take a few hours and then I'll see how true this test is. One thing for sure is that right away you can feel its power comparing to the 3. The way i figured is that jailbreaking slows down our devices so i got the new iPhone 5S and the iPad Air so after i jailbreak, it will be as fast as my iPhone 5 and iPad 3 un jailbroken. ( I hope )

Sleigher i just read what u wrote all over again and if i get u right u mean that they should test how fast the iPad start while charging after its battery died because your iPad 3 takes forever? I can say a few words about that, first the longer it takes a battery to charge the longer it takes it to die meaning you took a good care of your battery ( one thing i understand is batteries because my hobby is flying model helicopters and the one thing you don't ever want to happened to you is have a battery die in the air ) also i own a Cell/Lab shop and i see so many people charging their iPhones with an iPad charger and then the come to me complaining about the phone dying in 2 hours. 2 more things, your charger is old and might not work as good as it used to and the second is that Apple came out with a slightly more powerful charger for the iPad so check it out at the Apple store or on line.

Sorry what i just wrote was meant for MK.

Who turns off their iPad? The average user never turns off their tablets unless they know they are not going to have access to a charger for a period of time and they need to preserve battery life.

gamerscul9870 - December 6, 2013 at 10:12pm

It's just a test, that's why the ipads were off (unless people try to take your ipad while you use it is why).

Roko - December 6, 2013 at 10:15am

So the iPad1 is the fastest of the pre-mini era? Not bad!

odedoo1 - December 7, 2013 at 3:22am

Not bad at all, one of my iPads is the 1 and its a beauty but u got to understand that it got no camera or a retina screen and only goes up to iOS 5 so that could be the reason.

Jinx - December 5, 2013 at 7:49pm

Im more surprised no one said some stupid things like "its faster on Air cuz of 64bit!!!"

gamerscul9870 - December 5, 2013 at 9:18pm

Exactly, a feature, not some processor!

Dan - December 3, 2013 at 3:02pm

1st gen does not have 7.0.4 firmware version, it's not even available for the 1st gen iPad

odedoo1 - December 7, 2013 at 2:28am

So so true learn to read iPad 1 goes up to 5.1 which is cool in a way because its always jail breakable.

Guest - December 3, 2013 at 1:55pm

This is great news. I've been searching for this info because I really need to know which iPad to buy and I need to save 10 seconds of boot time for the one time every couple months I may have to reboot my device. Now the choice is clear.

gamerscul9870 - December 3, 2013 at 9:01pm

Air, go for it, performance and specs unlike any other!

Olivier - December 6, 2013 at 12:10am

This was sarcastic....

gamerscul9870 - December 6, 2013 at 2:58am

What part was?

Guest - December 6, 2013 at 1:29pm

All of it. Why anyone would care about measuring boot times of each device, other than just curiousity, is beyond me. Maybe a chart, but a video with a soundtrack? Ha! Does anyone really factor this in when making a buying choice? My iPads get rebooted maybe 6 times a year. 12 seconds wait or 30 seconds does not matter.

gamerscul9870 - December 6, 2013 at 1:43pm

Ok, but for me I want a tablet light and full sized enough to carry around on my back, so I would go for the air since it comes with a power efficent m7 coprocessor!

Nikolay Andreev - December 3, 2013 at 1:22pm

The iPad 2 did surprisingly good

iAmMe - December 3, 2013 at 1:19pm

But are they all new (or the same usage)? All processors degrade over time so this test might not be accurate.
