OWC has confirmed that the new Mac Pro processor is indeed upgradeable. The company discovered that the desktop had a removable CPU in its tear down last week.

We got our hands on an Intel E5-2667 V2 8-core 3.30GHz with 25MB Cache processor, installed it in the new Mac Pro and have done some benchmarking to get an early look at the performance vs. the stock Apple / Intel E5-1650 V2 6-core 3.50GHz with 12MB Cache model. The testing was done with 64GB of OWC memory installed.

Their benchmarking showed a 30% multi-processor performance bump with the upgraded chip. That bests the 12-core performance of the previous generation Mac Pro.

k - you really are an asshole. The Mac Pro is CERTAINLY not for most people, and certainly will benchmark poorly against the PC you built so as you can play WoW 24/7, but for those who need massively powerful processing with (and this is the key feature) a super fast bus access to dual GPU cores implementing OpenCL with applications that take advantage of it, those benchmarks will certainly put the Mac Pro on top....

I'll have you know your perspective just shows what you think you see, Mac Pro takes performance to a whole damn new level, when did macs not perform against PC when PC doesn't have benchmarks close to this? Mac Pro is for creativity, why would I waste $3,000 on Mac Pro when I can save half the money and buy the iMac and download without viruses (PC problem), but in reality I am never a WoW player and an iDiot like you.

Now a benchmark for Mac Pro vs any powerful PC out there (not saying powerful than a Mac), see how it all adds up to microsheeps logic.
