Apple is close to acquiring the Swell Radio app for around $30 million, reports Re/code.

Swell Radio lets you listen to personalized audio news and information for free from your mobile device. It offers access to unlimited streaming audio from iTunes, NPR, ABC, ESPN, BBC, CBC, TED and more.

Swell has a simple UI that lends itself to in-car listening and a high 4.5 star rating; however, it reportedly had trouble finding a lot of users.

As part of Apple's acquisition the app will be shut down this week. It's believed that much of the team will join Apple. However, neither of the companies responded for comment on the acquisition.

You can still download Swell Radio for News and Podcasts from the App Store for free.

there it goes again, apple buying minds and tim cook is a shopholic. the already have a radio, what's the reason for buying this one. I know, there is a lot of features that they want to copy, but it's a lot cheaper to buy them that to have their programmers make them.
