Google has announced that Google Earth Pro is now free. Access to the software previously cost $399 per year.

"Starting today, even more people will be able to access Google Earth Pro: we're making it available for free. To see what Earth Pro can do for you—or to just have fun flying around the world—grab a free key and download Earth Pro today. If you're an existing user, your key will continue to work with no changes required."

Google Earth is a 3D interactive globe that can be used to aid planning, analysis and decision making. The Pro version offers features previously unavailable to those without a subscription.

Features of Earth Pro:
● View demographic, parcel and traffic data layers
● Use advanced GIS data importing features to your advantage
● Measure area, radius and circumference on the ground
● Print high-resolution screenshots
● Make compelling offline movies to share

More details about the software can be found here or in the chart below.

The download page was flaky for me the first time. It downloaded regular Google earth. But I tried the link again and this time got the pro version. I was able to get both the Windows and Mac versions on their respective computers.

$400 per year? Hell no. I'd rather have 3d buildings and terrain instead.
