Ian Rogers, senior director of Apple Music and former CEO of Beats Music, is leaving abruptly leaving Apple, according to the Financial Times.
News of his departure caught colleagues off guard. He is leaving the west coast to work for a Europe-based company in an unrelated industry, people familiar with the situation said.
The departure comes just two months after the launch of the Beats1 radio service which Rogers helped Apple develop. It's likely to be of some concern to music industry executives who are hoping to see the streaming music service succeed.
Apple confirmed that Rogers is leaving the company but declined to comment further.
