Google has released Waze 4.0 for iOS, introducing a fresh new design for easier navigation, reporting, and sharing.
Waze is the world's largest community-based traffic and navigation app. Join drivers in your area who share real-time traffic & road info to save time, gas money, and improve daily commuting for all. Just by driving with Waze open, you're already contributing tons of real-time traffic information to your local community. You can also actively report accidents, police traps and other hazards you see on the road. Get road alerts along your route and find the cheapest gas prices around you shared by the community. Plus, you can add friends, send locations or keep others posted on your arrival time.
What's New In This Version: Version 4.0 introduces a fresh new design for easier navigation, reporting, and sharing. • Significantly reduced battery consumption. • Fewer taps to start a drive, send locations and directions. • New ETA panel organizes everything you need in one place. View reports, check alternate routes, add a stop on the way, or instantly send ETA to friends and family. • The new map is easier to read with a cleaner look catered to your drive. • It’s easier to help others on the road with a faster, more visual reporting menu. • Reports and alerts are color-coded so you can instantly recognize them on the map. • Smart reminders to leave on time for your Calendar events based on traffic conditions and drive times.
You can download Waze from the App Store for free.

Ugh I absolutely hate this watered down mapping layout. It looks very boring to look at when I'm driving and menu you bar on the bottom of the screen constantly impedes accessing the reporting button while driving

Waze is chatty which will eat up your data plan. Apple map traffic is all I use now.

Will this version improve routing to ensure drivers don't end up in dangerous locations by mistake?

It's hard to blame the app. Many navigation apps allow you to avoid highways, carpools, or tolls, but no app can perfectly predict every safety hazard on the road.
