Jason Calacanis Says Apple CEO Tim Cook's Lack of Vision and Incompetence is Killing the Company [Video]

Jason Calacanis, an Internet entrepreneur, accuses Apple CEO Tim Cook of being incompetent and 'killing this company' on the latest This Week in Tech episode.

Calacanis blames Cook's lack of vision for a disappointing refresh of the MacBook Pro and suggests it may be time for Cook to step down.

If you put the person in charge of logistics in charge of Apple, which they did, it's fine, the ships and the trains, everything is going to run on time but the product is going to suffer. They need a product visionary in there to understand that getting rid of the phone jack and then forcing people to make a decision if they want to charge their phone or make a phone call is incompetence. Then to take the MagSafe connector, which Steve Jobs is like this is so important the MagSafe because your computer is not going to go flying across the room, and everybody's like oh my god hallelujah this MagSafe is so genius, and to take that innovation that they're known for and throw it away, and put USB-C, put four USB-Cs, and then take out another loved feature, the HDMI that plugs right in, knowing that people who are in the video business and developers love that, it wreaks of some level of incompetence that could only happen when you put somebody as boring and visionless as Tim Cook in charge of a company with a legacy and a passionate user base like Apple. It's a disaster right now.

If they start losing Mac video editors and Mac artists to this new Surface thing. That is horrible.

We have to talk about when is Tim Cook is getting out of that chair because he is killing this company. I mean I know they have a ton of money but he has to get out because Jony Ive's phoning in.

How many here have used the new MacBook Pros for long enough time to make an informed comment? How hard is it to yank out a USB C cable? Dongles? How many are you really needing? If you are a pro user, you'd probably be using a hub. 16GB not enough? Well maybe the super speed SSD and memory management in the OS is capable enough to negate some or all of the ill-effects of perceived "not enough ram"?

Well said. Been waiting for this new MBP for couple years and this is what we get Sh*t! Also, I utterly dislike the iPhone 7 what a disappointment. I truly hate that i can't use my high end headphones or earphones and charge the damn thing. I actually bought an Android phone as a second phone which I seem to use more than the iPhone7. Looks like Apple is dying a slow death.

What Apple should've done with this product is released Two MagSafe connectors on both sides and under that should be USB-Cs and under that should be USB 3.0. On the right side under the USB 3.0 should be an SD slot. This would encourage new users to try the USB-C while also respecting the most standard hardware ports.

Having the "guts" to move forward and completely ignoring the most popular hardware standards is entirely an different case and usually one that aims to force customers and manipulate them into buying more of Apple products. Either way you look at this this is going to hurt Apple.

Well the Surface studio looks like the best ever drawing hardware ever made. No wonder they will lose people to the studio.

if USB-C 's so powerfull that allows you to conenct tons of device in one single port. why the heck have 4 USB-C ??? couldn't one of those port be left as USB 3.0 ? Also removing the magsafe was in my opinion the worst decision ever..... They removed the one thing most computer manufactures envy.... I think Scott Forstall would have been a better CEO

Agreed TC doesn't have the visionary of SJ. However the touch bar is excellent from a graphics designer view point who wants grubby fingerprints all over a touch screen display The inclusion of an ultra fast SSD is worth a mention as is the future proof high speed multi use USB-C ports. Who really wants or needs unique ports specific to devices when USB-C gives flexibility and multi point fast connection which will support every conceivable accessory in time. The cost of a few cables to retain legacy connection is a small price to pay

Small price? You must not be talking about Apple then

I completely agree with the 4 USB-C ports are stupid. He should have made one HDMI port. I hate I no longer have the MagSafe connector on my MacBook and now the MBP. I know Apple has been pushing the USB-C, but this is overkill.

He is absolutely right! Tim cook is slowly killing apple.. Instead of focusing on user experience, he is focusing on hippie things such as emojis and eye candies. Goodluck to apple if this keeps going

It's called people liking something that they wanted to buy themselves that they knew about. Shame on you! Tim Cookmis what saved Apple from dwindling downhill for the past 5 years. Jobs is what hired him, but let's face it, Jobs has also made bad decisions, yet anyone will lash out out Tim just because he does something that's mistaken even on Jobs' level. Long story short, I'm starting to lose a bit of faith in humanity.
