Apple may be working on its own power management chip for the iPhone, according to Bankhaus Lampe via Routers. The company is reportedly developing a battery-saving chip that could replace Dialog's power management integrated circuits (PMIC) by 2019. Dialog shares fell 36% this morning but are now down 15% from yesterday.

Industry sources tell Bankhaus Lampe that Apple is setting up power management design centers both in Munich and California and already has around 80 engineers working on a chip.

"In our view, there is strong evidence that Apple is developing its own PMIC and intends to replace the chip made by Dialog at least in part," Bankhaus Lampe analyst Karsten Iltgen said, referring to power management chips.

A source familiar with the matter confirmed to Reuters that Apple was recruiting top Dialog engineers in Munich. "They are poaching like crazy," the person said.

The news follows an announcement from Imagination Technologies that Apple has given them notice that it will stop using their GPU technology in 15-24 months.
