Amazon has acquired smart doorbell maker Ring in a deal valued at over $1 billion, reports Reuters.
A company spokesperson confirmed the acquisition.
“Ring is committed to our mission to reduce crime in neighborhoods by providing effective yet affordable home security tools to our neighbors that make a positive impact on our homes, our communities, and the world,” a Ring spokesperson said in a statement. “We’ll be able to achieve even more by partnering with an inventive, customer-centric company like Amazon. We look forward to being a part of the Amazon team as we work toward our vision for safer neighborhoods.”
“Ring’s home security products and services have delighted customers since day one,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. “We’re excited to work with this talented team and help them in their mission to keep homes safe and secure.”
Ring is best known for its Video Doorbell of which there are now four versions. The company also makes security cameras and has introduced a home security system.
Notably, Ring has taken to Twitter to assure Apple users that HomeKit support is still coming and should arrive this year.

Actually I think Ring will now have Amazon’s financial backing and will improve with the acquisition.

I was debating Ring or Nest, and thought the Ring pricing model beat Nest even though Nest quality is better. Now I’m having second thoughts. I’m not buying tech with Amazon’s logo on it.

Don’t forget Nest bought Dropcam and then they got rid of free 24 hour cloud and charge a hefty monthly premium for cloud service.
