Planetbeing has successfully jailbroken the iPhone 4 using comex's userland jailbreak code!
Think I'm the first one I know about to get a root shell (and SSH) on iPhone 4, using poor @comex's code (since he has no iPhone 4).
Below you can see a high resolution screenshot of Cydia that MuscleNerd posted in a congratulations tweet to both hackers.
Congrats to @comex for another userland JB http://is.gd/d5N6I hi-res Cydia via @planetbeing & @chpwn iPhone4s
Update: Unfortunately, p0sixninja says that this jailbreak cannot be released publicly as it contains some of Apple's software.
the jailbreak shown is a more of a stepping stone for us, it can't be released because it includes some of apples software
Planetbeing has confirmed this saying: Don't want to speak for @comex, but afaik no one has breathed a word about release date and what we have right now is nowhere ready.

For those folks that used Spirit for 3.1.3 JB and have the old bootroom, here are instructions to to eventually restore custom 4.0 firmware:

To unpack the ipsw, change the extension to zip to access the files. Enjoy!

look at the orientation lock on the top. Only iOS4 has that feature

There are 2 pictures, this thread only shows one of them... look at the picture resolution, it's an iphone 4

Rajiv - June 27, 2010 at 8:25pm
The orientation lock is also available in the iOS4 firmware for iPhone 3GS. We are looking to verify that the actual iPhone 4 is jailbreakable.
Evidence seems to point to yes bcause of the resolution of the picture.

They always show us that there's a new jb but they never tell when it's gonna be released. If the damn thing is ready just release it. Don't publish any pics to tease ppl!

FYI... this is a news/rumors site. A potential jailbreak for iPhone 4 is BIG NEWS and shows promise that a LEGAL jailbreak is on the way. If you want your iPhone 4 jailbroken right NOW, code it yourself and stop complaining.

humm but he submitted "Don't want to speak for @comex, but afaik no one has breathed a word about release date and what we have right now is nowhere ready." planetbeing@twitter
So it maybe too soon to say that they will have it officially out and ready!
Let's be optimistic, it's a great start and thanks planetbeing and everyone working with him as will :)
can't wait to jailbreak my iPhone 4 ;)

I personally hope they give us the option to disable the Apple's multitasking. Its not that its bad, I just don't like double clicking the home button.

Your Wrong, the iPhone 4.0 software has a software lock that displays that icon.

iClarified - June 27, 2010 at 1:27am
Actually it does. You can find instructions on how to use the Portrait Orientation Lock on any iOS 4 device here: https://www.iClarified.com/10298

ANYONE - June 27, 2010 at 1:37am
we know that aint no iphone 4, bc no one has full service on it with the shitty antenna. im always dropping service and always having 1 to 2 bars of service max. and i hold the phone the "right" way with a case on it. lol......... just kidding on it not being an iphone, i don't doubt it. (not kidding on the service tho)

rofl - June 27, 2010 at 1:48am
you obviously, haven't double clicked for multitasking and slid it to the right for the ipod controls. There you will see on the far left the portrait screen rotation lock for the iphone! =)

Mabnat - June 27, 2010 at 2:22am
Is the rotation lock not present on the iPhone 4? It's there on my 3GS...

Me2010 - June 27, 2010 at 2:48am

On a positive note, the longer it takes to get a JB pushed out the more likely our favourite Cydia Apps/Tweaks will be iOS 4 compatible. Personally I'd be surprised if we see a JB b4 nxt wks probable 4.01 update. No point revealing your exploits for just a few days JB JB fun is there?

wezz69 - June 27, 2010 at 8:57am
it may have something to do with your S/P on how much signal you have, im with orange UK and have full signal edge and 3.5G (whatever 3.5g is lol?) but yes if my finger touches the band then 1,2,3 bars are my best hope, i have never lost full signal yet!!
my question is, how can a firmware update rectify this fault when its actually a hardware problem ... i see a product recall or apple credit note possibly.
cant wait for the jailbreak, hell ive only owned it since thursday (day of release) and theres already jailbreak news, hands up and loud applause to the hackers for their excellent work. ppl be patient, if you push they could possibly dig their heals in and make you wait... but in my opinion id if i were the hackers id charge for the ability to jb your device. no, or little thanks is given for their possibly god-like work and all for free

Uhh, Double CLick Your Home Button so multitasking comes up, then swipe to the right and you will find out how your statement is inaccurate.
