Apple has decided to allow iPhone 4 flashlight apps after originally saying they were "inappropriate use of hardware".

Michael D'Ulisse of MoreBluSky submitted his flashlight application to the App Store the day following the iPhone 4's release. After a delay in approval he was told the app was "inappropriate use of hardware". He reached to VP Phil Schiller who promised to meet with the App Review department to discuss the situation. Today thirteen flashlight applications have already appeared in the App Store including MoreBluSky's Flashlight - For iPhone 4.

You can purchase most of these apps from the App Store for $0.99.

The people that buy any flashlight app for iphone 4... Go to camera and just turn flash on versus auto...presto it stays on while in camera. Unless you really like having apps for this and that :( Now how about a JB info story for people that need mywi for iphone 4 iOS 4

You can get a free flashlight by downloading 'ICanSee' which gives the option of turning the LED on or off for use with their 'magnifying glass'.

Awesome news. I'll still wait if a free version appears on Cydia before I drop the dollar ;) or maybe one that you can choose maxscreen brightness or LED activation.

Yes the cydia flashlight app is free and gives max brightness on the screen. But these apps are for controlling the flash near the camera on the iPhone 4. Which is currently not jailbroken. So there is no flashlight app for the led flash via cydia, yet.
