Starting with iOS 4.x, Apple began performing soft SHSH blob checks for older iDevices. This means that like the 3GS and the iPhone 4, if iTunes cant get your blobs (due to signing window being closed), the iTunes restore will error out. Therefore, Cydia is now saving SHSH blobs for older devices too. Fortunately, since it is a soft SHSH blob check, it can easily be bypassed by using redsn0w or PwnageTool.
Those of you with jailbroken iPhone3G and ipt2G devices may now have noticed Cydia starting to save your SHSH blobs too, just like it does for iPhone3GS, ipt3G and later devices. Thats because starting with 4.0, Apple started putting a soft SHSH blob check in the firmware. The SHSH blob check is very real in the sense that if iTunes cant get your blobs (because the Apple signing window has closed), the iTunes restore will error out. But its soft in the sense that those devices can always use redsn0w or PwnageTool to get past the error (the bootroms themselves for those devices dont require blobs to be in the firmware files, unlike the newer bootroms).
So, Cydia is doing this to allow you to continue to use iTunes to restore to 4.x on iPhone3G and ipt2g outside of Apples signing window without needing to use redsn0w or PwnageTool to get around Apples annoying new restriction.

this is BS* i just restore my wife 3g (my old device) to 3.1.2 , 3.1.3 and to 4.0 to check if this is true, and all i see is BS* talking here....i don't have any SHSH blobs saved on this 3g and it restores without problems.. only my 3gs is giving me this kind of Error when i downgrade and it gets stuck on recovery loop, but i just use RecBoot and it's all good again...
So plz calm down :) and Moderators, u should kick out impersonators :)

I too have W7 64bit. I think my problem was understanding the libusb part. I just couldn't find a good tutorial.

For all the folks complaining on this site, your phone would work the same as a jailbroken phone if you..... Waaaaaaaaiiiiiiiit foooooorrr iiiiiiitttt... Actually bought the apps. I mean, just sayin.'

Not saying that ppl shouldn't pay for apps, but just pointing out that jailbreaking makes for a lot more possibilities than just getting any AppStore app for free. Themes, ssh, bitesms, sbsettings, etc are definitely not in the AppStore

I feel you bro. Benefits to me are tethering, mywi, and hopefully 3G unrestrictor for FaceTime. Others use it to a max benefit of course. Still doesn't warrant people complaining about something they'll be getting for free w/ almost endless possibilities.

It's time for me to buy an android. Antenna issues, no flash, to much effort to jailbreak now! Enough is enough, there's a reason why it's outselling the iPhone

There's lots of reasons why Androids are outselling iPhones but it's none of the ones that you wrote. How about, there's shit loads of different android devices at different price points where as there's only ONE iPhone released a year at a fixed premium price point.

I simply no getting it. Who cares about unlock if it is useless without JB.
It is not that I do not appreciate all the hard and genius work guys do,
but its progress and final results are USELESS to community and is just a tease ...

Just understand that it's not just one person working on everything. Just so happens that the " unlock ppl " got their job almost done first. That's all it is. Yea we cant use it til comex is done, but so what? They told us because they want us to be updated on whats going on. Be patient. I'm cheering for comex, without any bitching :)
