No iPhone Hardware Announcement at WWDC?

Apple will use WWDC to focus on software and will not unveil a new iPhone at the event, according to The Loop.

Apple's apparent focus on software in its WWDC announcement backs up what my own sources are saying about the annual conference. That is, expect a software show in 2011, not a hardware event.

Apple has used WWDC to unveil the last few iPhones; however, Gartner analyst Michael Gartenberg warns against getting caught in a pattern.


"You get caught up in patterns, and it holds true, until it doesn't," Gartenberg told The Loop. "There is no reason for Apple to follow a predictable yearly pattern, and it keeps their competition off guard a little bit."

Some speculate that Apple might delay the hardware release of the next iPhone due to the release of a second iPhone 4 in 2010.
