FBR Capital Markets predicts the iPhone 5 will begin production in Q3 featuring an 8MP camera and a Qualcomm CDMA-GSM chip, according to PCWorld.

In a research note, FBR says they expect about about 20 million iPhones will be produced in the third quarter with the iPhone 5 accounting for about 8 million of those.

OmniVision is predicted to be the supplier of an 8 megapixel CMOS sensor with Sony being a possible backup supplier.

Apple is said to be using integrated CDMA-GSM communication chips from Qualcomm for the upcoming device.

"Our contacts have confirmed to us that Qualcomm is replacing Intel as the baseband supplier, selling an integrated CDMA/WCDMA baseband," FBR wrote.

Yesterday the next generation iPhone's release date was pegged at November 21st by an unconfirmed source.

Could this mean that iPhones will start selling without a contract plan?

In other words, they can sell one model line that works on both Verizon and AT&T. The million-dollar question is whether or not it will come LTE-ready.

Nah, the iphone isn't ready for LTE. The battery consumption is just not there yet plus ATT isn't going to be fully LTE ready before release. Heck, the gsm/cdma combo would be surprising itself (though I had said that was most likely as companies likes 1 manufacturing process). That will be interesting to see how it handles battery consumption.
