Anyone Can Install iOS 5 GM Seed But BigBoss Warns Against It

Posted October 5, 2011 at 6:32pm by iClarified
The latest version of iOS 5 seeded to developers can be installed by anyone without the need for a registered UDID; however, BigBoss is strongly warning that non-developers do not install the GM Seed.

Here are his reasons:

1) iOS5 GM Seed will expire and once jailbroken you will not be able to use over-the-air updates and get to iOS 5 Final.

2) Official release is in just seven days.

3) Important tweaks such as activator are not ready or not released yet.

4) It's current a tethered jailbreak for all but the old bootrom 3gs.

5) iPad 2 owners cannot jailbreak.

6) Many internal changes will affect the functionality of your current tweaks.

7) No hactivation.

None of the previous GM's ever expired on me... Is this a fact or a guess? most earlier GM's were the same build number as the official release...

Uh, NONE of the GM builds ever required a registered UDID to be installed on. Not sure how much of news is that.

So it looks like none of those apply to people who have given up on bothering to jailbreak, thankfully. Gotta say, after installing 5 on my iPad 1 last night, it's like a breath of fresh air into the device. I was gonna sell it a couple weeks ago, glad I didn't bother. The additional features make it like a different device, versus the iPhone where it just makes it better.

To to clarify if you are not concerned with jailbreaking at all installing this GM seed of iOS5 will not harm my device? I can be patient until next week if need be. Is the GM of 5 the final version that we will get, as consumers, next week on the 12th? Thanks!
