Microsoft PocketTouch is a new technology that lets you control your phone using gestures without taking it out of your pocket.
PocketTouch uses the capacitive sensors to enable eyes-free multitouch input on the device through fabric, giving users the convenience of a rich set of gesture interactions, ranging from simple touch strokes to full alphanumeric text entry, without having to remove the device from a pocket or bag.
"People already try to interact with a computing device through fabric," says Saponas, of the Computational User Experiences group. "Think of when you try to reach through your pocket to the slider that silences your phone. We wanted to take a different spin by asking: Can we use a higher-bandwidth touch surface to provide a wider range of actual input?"
Check out the technology being demonstrated in the video below. PocketTouch will be presented during UIST 2012.
