Developer Brandon Fiquett has successfully created a plugin to Siri Proxy that lets him control his vehicle using the iPhone assistant.

I created a new ruby plugin that is used by plamoni's "Siri Proxy", a proxy server for Apple's Siri assistant. This proxy server allows for the creation of custom plugins that can intercept recognized speech and perform virtually any function imaginable (programmable, scriptable). The "Siri Proxy" plugin I wrote handles interaction with a php script that runs on my web server. The php script, which I developed months ago for personal use, allows me to send commands to my car which has a Viper SmartStart module installed.

The new commands his plugin adds to Siri are: "Vehicle Arm", "Vehicle Disarm", "Vehicle Start", "Vehicle Stop", "Vehicle Pop Trunk", and "Vehicle Panic".

Seriously? You could have just pushed the button on your viper remote in half the time it took Siri to do all that.

That's exactly what Steve had in mind. Expanding Siri to be part of our lives. Siri is personal assistant and can do almost anything. We just have to think different. And Apple wins once again :)

Amazing what Siri could do if expanded! Using it with X5 home automation etc... Siri set Alarm. Siri turn on lights. Turn on timers... Unlimited
