Firmware 2.1 Wipes Data After 10 Passcode Attempts

Firmware 2.1 Wipes Data After 10 Passcode Attempts

Posted September 11, 2008 at 11:22pm by iClarified
Apple has built in a new security feature into the 2.1 firmware which performs a data wipe after 10 failed passcode attempts.

This feature can only be confirmed in the iPod 2.1 firmware for now; however, it is very likely that the iPhone 2.1 firmware will have it as well.

The iPhone 2.1 firmware is due for release tomorrow according to Steve Jobs' keynote address. Please do not upgrade your iPhone to 2.1 if you have or wish to pwn your phone. Wait until an update is available for PwnageTool

Since it is a selectable option and you can set a time period to require the password, its a great option. You don't have to enter a passord everytime it locks the screen. Hopefully, the users of this option realizes that they should sync and back up the data on the home computer.

I think this is a good option. If you loose your iphone, nobody can access to your personal data. You can restore a backup with iTunes or AppBackup ;)

So if somebody really wants to screw you, they can just enter the wrong passcode ten times. Stupid.
