Apple is Finally Close to Updating the Mac Pro?

M.I.C. Gadget is reporting that Apple is finally close to updating the Mac Pro, thanks to Intel's new Ivy Bridge platform.

Earlier reports indicated that Apple was having overheating issues with Sandy Bridge CPUs. The Ivy Bridge platform features "tri-gate" transistors that are 30%+ more efficient with heat dissipation and get the overheating issues under control.

Apple, being one of Intel's most reliable customers, our sources have told us that the engineering samples for the new processors, with 8 cores and a shocking 20MB of cache have been given out and tested to Apple. Furthermore, the overheating issues, they are gone, and the manufacturing yield is now high enough for Apple to maintain its high profit margin.

In addition, Apple reportedly plans to drop ATI graphics for Nvidia. Specifically, the Nvidia Kepler series graphics cards that are set for release in April/May.

Nvidia has their "Kepler" platform due out around the same time as Intel is making their changes, and our sources within the company indicate that they have chosen to have Nvidia lead the charge so to speak on the graphics front. This is good for all our compatriots who want to use the special graphics engine in Adobe products, as it supports Nvidia only, or for those who wish to do CUDA based programs as well, again only supported by Nvidia.

M.I.C. Gadgets say they hearing that the new Mac Pro could appear around the end of quarter three; however, this could be moved ahead or back depending on how the newly released components perform. Hopefully, this is good news for those worried that Apple would discontinue the device.

Thia is good news for those who rely on integer performance of dual processors for video transcoding. It's still a better buy now that it sports Thunderbolt, probably dual discreet channels.
