Users are reporting a significant improvement in battery life after installing iOS 5.1, according to a thread on reddit.
"I thought they were making BS claims, but after a few days I can honestly say that yes... I've seen a dramatic improvement on the life of the battery. Kudos to the power saving iOS devs," writes ruffyamaharyder.
Other users have chimed in with impressive numbers:
"Currently at Usage 7 Hours, 46 minutes, Standby 3 Days, 20 Hours..with 17% left in the battery.. Was at 100% when I did the 5.1 update.." [Trizlo]
"Since my last charge after updating, I went from 100% battery to 40% (when I decided to charge it) on 5 hours of usage and 51 hours of standby." [zinger2112]

To start, giving us the option to turn off the 3G connection makes a big difference. All the difference IMO...

Can you give some examples please? I have an new 4s and I'm concern about my battery. I used in the past for 3 years an iPhone 3G and it was better that this new one. I have now 2h 23 m out of 4h09m usage with 40% left . Any advice?

Turn down your brightness. Most people have no idea how much battery life that takes

Reset iPhone settings, drain all the battery (until iPhone itself turn off), then full charge the iPhone.

Yes it does, but it's not a button any more.
You have to drag it up to get to the camera

Yes my battery life has improved drastically. Specially the network setting which enables users to turn off 3G is really good and I happy to see it back is iOS 5.1

My iPhone 4S is still shitty when it comes to battery life.. After 2 hour of usage (light usage, no draining games) and 5 hours of standby I'm down to 65 % left.. Will it help if I restore and start over without the backup file..? Or do I have to send it away on warranty repair..?

35% of your battery used up in 2 hours of use and 5 hours of stand-by sounds about right to me.

Are these improvements just for 4/4S or 3GS too? Cos my 3GS has the lifespan of a mayfly.

Definitely upgrade. I did the day after they released, so I'm still waiting for an unlock, but the battery life has improved a lot.

Yes I've seen a very significant better battery life. I would need to charge it at least once during the day but now I can take it off the charger early in the a.m n not charge until the next full day.
