A new report from ElectricPig says Apple will release a 15-inch MacBook Air in April.
Electricpig spent a couple of hours at CU Exposed yesterday, the UK's premier, if hilariously-named, showcase for Mac accessories. Alongside continued coos about how the new iPad's display will ruin everything else in sight, we heard word from one anonymous vendor that Apple's likely to launch a 15-inch MacBook Air in April, effectively killing the Pro for the average consumer.
This information correlates with rumors we've been hearing for quite some time. DigiTimes, Macotakara, and MacRumors have all reported on the device.
ElectricPig's source is a 'key player' in MacBook docking solutions and is quite certain that the new notebook with no optical drive and no ethernet will launch soon.
While our source wasn't certain that this would completely destroy the Pro (he also stated that Apple might hold on to the 17-inch model, which would make sense for the sizeable audience of professional editors out there), he was fairly sure that the shakeup will happen in April. To that end, our source's company's got its manufacturers on standby to be able to make and ship a new product lineup inside of 90 days.
Considering how effectively Apple has killed Bluray format and optical drive, it only makes sense that the entire lineup of Macbooks should be in Air form. Apple will also price these AirBooks accordingly, mind you.
Doesn't make sense to do away with the 15" pro because some people want weight to their notebooks not everyone travels with notebooks and price to the 17" is a good $600 difference
Totally agree. Why would they do away with the 15" pro ( which more than likely is their top selling size) and only make a 15" air. Leaving 13 and 17 the only pro models. Doesn't make sense. Even though the air is an awesome looking notebook I prefer the look, feel, and performance of the pro models myself. I just hope this doesn't really happen because Ive been holding out for the next 15" pro instead of buy the current model.
